Wayne Woman, Realtor Battling Cancer Needs Your Help

The Wayne resident also suffered several unexpected strokes, according to a GoFundMe supporting her family.

WAYNE, NJ — The Wayne community has been known for rallying around locals in need, especially people battling cancer. Once again, a township resident could use the public's help.

Jamie Simon-Wainick, a local realtor, was helping her daughter prepare for an orthopedic surgical procedure that would leave her unable to walk for several months. Simon-Wainick planned to stay by her daughter's bedside this winter to assist with day-to-day needs.

But while preparing her daughter for surgery, Simon-Wainick learned that she now has cancer, according to a GoFundMe supporting her family's expenses. While running tests for upcoming cancer treatment a month ago, she also suffered several unexpected strokes.

Simon-Wainick spent a week in intensive care before transferring to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange. Over the past several weeks, she's been trying to regain her speech, mobility and fine motor skills.

Her income had been important to the family. And Simon-Wainick's husband, Michael, a Wayne volunteer firefighter, also must continue working to minimize the financial damage. The family now needs at-home care for both Jamie and her daughter as they try to recover.

"Anyone who knows Jamie knows that she is the last person to ever ask for help," the GoFundMe page says. "Instead, she is always the one to be giving. That said, this situation at hand is one where the help of those like us is the only way they can get through this crisis."

Support for the fundraiser has surged, with 269 donations totaling $26,239 as of Friday afternoon.
