Toys R Us Closing Sales In NJ: Find Out Where, What's Next

WAYNE, NJ — Toys R Us is liquidating its operations, and many stores in New Jersey and elsewhere have already begun closing sales. Here are some of the most pressing questions regarding the liquidation process following the company's announcement last week it would sell or close all of its U.S. and U.K. stores.

When Will Toys R Us Closing Sales Begin?

While a number of stores have already announced their plans, store closures and liquidation sales timelines at many Toys R Us stores in New Jersey still being determined, said Amanda Kahl, a company spokesperson.

There is a bankruptcy hearing Tuesday where the Wayne-based company can get approval to begin holding discounts and put up "Store Closing Sale" signs, CNN.com reported.

Eleven New Jersey stores began holding closing sales in early February. Those closings were among the initial 180 stores nationwide that the company announced would close. Discounts of 10 to 30 percent off are being offered at some of those stores. The Wayne store has a up-to-60-percent-off sale going on.

Customers should call their local store to find out if a liquidation sale has begun.

Can I return something I recently purchased?

Items bought at a store before its liquidation sale begins may be returned to any open store. Once a store has a liquidation sale, returns will not be accepted.

It is not clear whether items purchased in stores can be returned through the Toys R Us website after stores are shuttered.

What about my gift cards and coupons?

Endless earnings will be honored until Wednesday. Gift cards are redeemable through April 12.

What will happen to my Babies R Us gift registry?

Baby registries will remain up and available for the next few weeks, Kahl said.
