Proposed Zoning Change: Car Wash at Route 571 and Southfield Rd, West Windsor

A zoning ordinance introduced would allow a car wash on the triangular parcel across from McCaffrey's

A zoning ordinance introduced at the February 9 Council meeting would allow a car wash on the triangular parcel at the intersection of Route 571 and Southfield Road. This is the same property already approved for a gas station, QuickChek, and drive through restaurant.

Before Council takes final action, the Planning Board will review the proposal to determine whether it is substantially consistent with the Township’s Master Plan, as required by state law. That review is not about whether the car wash is “good or bad,” but whether the ordinance aligns with the adopted planning goals and policies for the Neighborhood Center district.

Residents have already shared concerns about traffic, neighborhood character, and how the Master Plan envisions uses in this location. The Planning Board’s recommendation will be an important part of the decision-making process. The Planning Board meeting is on Wednesday, Feb 18th., at 6:30pm.
