2 Injured In Crash Involving Jackknifed Truck In West Windsor: PD

Four cars were involved in the crash on Route 1 in West Windsor Thursday morning.

WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — Two people were injured in a four-car crash that involved a jackknifed truck on Route 1 in West Windsor Thursday morning, police said.

The driver of a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox hurt his hand after his car was struck from behind by a 2014 Mack Truck/Fuel Tanker just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday, police said. The passenger, a 55-year-old woman, sustained a head injury in the crash.

The woman and the driver, a 60-year-old Edison man, became entrapped in the car, police said. They had been driving south on Route 1 in the middle lane near Fisher Place when the 1993 Peterbuilt Tractor/Trailer in front of them slowed down to come to a stop, police said.

When the Equinox was hit, it crashed into the tractor/trailer in front of it and the mack truck jackknifed, with the tractor portion hitting the center concrete median on Route 1, police said. A 2011 Toyota Sienna was traveling north on Route 1 in the left lane and was peppered with debris from the impact of the tractor trailer hitting the concrete center median, police said.

After they were rescued from the car, the two victims were taken to Capital Health Systems--Fuld Campus (Trauma) with non-life threatening injuries, police said. No one else was injured in the crash.

The driver of the mack truck, a 43-year-old man from Landsdowne, Pennsylvania, was charged with careless driving.

Route 1 South was closed while the left lane of Route 1 North was closed for about 2.5 hours. The following officials responded to the scene:
