West Windsor May Scale Back Curbside Brush Pickup Under New DPW Proposal
No services would be eliminated under the plan, but brush collection would be cut nearly in half under the proposal.
WEST WINDSOR, NJ — West Windsor Township is seeking resident feedback on a proposed overhaul of its brush and leaf collection schedule, with Mayor Hemant Marathe citing the township's significant growth and the need to deploy Department of Public Works crews more efficiently.
"West Windsor has experienced significant growth over the past several years," Marathe wrote in a letter to residents. "To keep pace with that growth, the Township Administration is continually evaluating ways to improve the services we provide to residents."
Under the proposal, no services would be eliminated, but collection windows would be consolidated. Leaf collection would continue during six months of the year — January, April, May, June, November, and December — with March collection discontinued. Brush collection would be reduced from 10 months per year to five, running in April, May, June, September, and October. Curbside brush pickup would be discontinued in March, July, August, November, and December, though residents would retain the option to drop off brush at the DPW facility year-round.

Marathe said the proposal is designed to keep collection "closer to the published schedule" while freeing up DPW staff to perform other services such as street tree maintenance, pothole repairs, roadside mowing, and litter collection, "particularly during periods of increased demand."
Residents can review the mayor's full presentation at westwindsortwp.gov and submit feedback by emailing BrushandLeaf@westwindsortwp.gov no later than July 15. "The Mayor and Township Council will carefully review all feedback before making a final decision," Marathe wrote.
