West Windsor Named Among Top 25 Places For Families To Live In U.S.
From preserving its agricultural history to having extraterrestrial roots - Fortune named West Windsor among the best places for families.
WEST WINDSOR, NJ — Wondering which is the best Mercer County township to live in? According to Fortune Well rankings released Wednesday, it's West Windsor.
Fortune's editors ranked West Windsor 11th on its list of 25 Best Places to Live for Families. west Windsor is one of two New Jersey towns on the list, with Parsippany ranking 15th.
The media outlet analyzed more than 215,000 data points for nearly 2,000 cities and towns with between 25,000 and 750,000 residents. Criteria include education, aging resources, general wellness, financial health and livability.

"West Windsor Township residents have the best of both worlds: It’s a short drive to Princeton and all the arts and culture that the top university town has to offer, and central to numerous nature trails and parks for outdoor adventures," Fortune wrote.
"Formerly a farming town, West Windsor has preserved its agriculture history through its farmers’ markets and roadside stands. This suburb also has extraterrestrial roots, as it’s the location of Grover’s Mill, where Orson Welles said the aliens were invading in his famous radio broadcast “The War of the Worlds.”"

Nearly half of Americans raising children younger than 18 are also shouldering the responsibility of caring for their parents in some capacity, according to an August survey from Harris Poll on Fortune's behalf. This "sandwich generation" — as Fortune calls them — is the target for the media outlet's rankings.
The township's "rigorous public schools" also found a mention and Fortune hailed it for being a "commuters’ paradise with easy access to large, urban centers."
