Wires Down Near Dutch Neck School In West Windsor: Police

Police also provided an update on storm cleanup Friday morning.

WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — The area near 414 East Village Road between South Mill and Dutch Neck Elementary School is blocked by downed wires, West Windsor police said Friday morning. Drivers can reach the school by using Edinburg to Village Road, but the other side is inaccessible.

Almost all roads, schools and township offices were open on Friday as the township continues to recover from the nor'easter that virtually shut down the town on Wednesday. However, there are still wires down on Cranbury Road and Township Line.

Recycling collection is scheduled for Saturday, March 10. As a reminder all recyclables must be in the official buckets and at the curb by 7 a.m. Recyclables may be dropped off at the Department of Public Works Facility, 70 Southfield Road.

They may be dropped off Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–2 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.–noon. Additional recycle buckets are also available at the Department of Public Works Facility, if needed. For further information contact the Department of Public Works office at 609-799-8370.

Waste Management is out collecting trash on Friday. Residents who usually have their trash picked up on Thursday will have pick up on Friday. Residents who usually have their trash picked up on Friday will have pick up on Saturday.

There is patchy ice on roads, so drivers are advised to use caution and use a longer than normal stopping distance.

West Windsor Police are reminding all residents to shovel, and remove all snow from sidewalks. Residents with elderly neighbors are asked to help them shovel. At some point, police will issue warnings and tickets to anyone who doesn't shovel.

Residents are also reminded to shovel the area around fire hydrants, and remove snow from car roofs.

It is a crime to leave pets outside without proper shelter for more than 30 minutes when the temperature is above 90 degrees or below 32. Anyone who sees pets left outside for an extended period of time is asked to call the West Windsor Police Department at 609-799-1222.

Below are the ordinances as provided by the West Windsor Police Department:

§ 152-18: Snow and ice removal or treatment required.

The owner, occupant or tenant of the premises abutting or bordering upon any street in the township shall remove all snow and ice from the abutting sidewalks of such streets or, in the event of ice which may be so frozen as to make removal impracticable, shall cause the same to be thoroughly covered with sand, ashes or rock salt within 24 hours after the same shall cease to fall or be formed thereon.

§ 152-19: Depositing snow or ice upon streets or sidewalks.

No person, owner, tenant or occupant of any premises abutting on any street or sidewalk shall throw, place or deposit any snow or ice accumulated on private property into or upon any such street or sidewalk in the township.
