Gloucester County Surpasses 10K Coronavirus Cases

After reporting 173 new cases on Friday, Gloucester County's total positive coronavirus case count is now 10,026, according to officials.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — The number of Gloucester County residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic surpassed 10,000 on Friday, according to numbers provided by the Gloucester County Health Department.

On Friday, the county reported 173 new cases and two new deaths. A 43-year-old Glassboro man and an 88-year-old Washington Township man both died after testing positive for the coronavirus, officials said on Friday.

With the 173 new cases, Gloucester County’s total positive coronavirus case count is now 10,026, according to officials. Contact tracing is underway in all new cases.

As of Friday, Gloucester County has conducted 99,312 total tests. Of these cases, 89,286 have come back negative. Four cases have been moved out of the county.

On Thursday, Gloucester County was one of nine New Jersey counties listed as being in the red zone when it comes to the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak in a new report by the White House's Coronavirus Task Force.

Gloucester County is expecting the number of cases to increase. Officials remind residents that social distancing is critical in flattening the curve and reducing cases.
