Revel Closed its Doors Tuesday Morning; Two More Closures Coming

By mid-september, Atlantic City will have lost four casinos and about 8,000 jobs, according to NBC New York.

Two years after a opening its doors, the Revel Casino shut down at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday morning, NBC 40 reports.

The hotel shut down on Monday, followed by the casino closing Tuesday morning.

After The Showboat closes on Sunday, and Trump Plaza closes Sept. 16, Atlantic City will have lost one-third of its casinos and about 8,000 people will have lost their jobs, according to CBS New York.

The casino ran into trouble just six months after its April, 2012 opening when Superstorm Sandy hit the region.

Although Atlantic City didn’t sustain as much damage as other areas of the Jersey Shore, false reports that the boardwalk had been destroyed and exaggerated reports of damage kept tourists away for much of the next year.

It had been entertaining offers for purchase, and an auction was scheduled for earlier this month. That auction was delayed, and it was reported there were no qualified bidders.
