South Jersey Man Pleads Guilty To Attempted Murder: Prosecutor

MAYS LANDING, NJ — A West Deptford man pleaded guilty to trying to kill a man outside of a bar in 2024, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Rockwell Pohlig, 35, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose, second-degree certain person not to possess a handgun, and second-degree possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

He turned himself in at the Atlantic County Justice Facility on Oct. 17, 2024, and admitted to having more than one ounce of synthetic cannabinoid on him when he surrendered.

Pohlig said he was going to distribute the substance to other inmates, authorities said.

The state, after Pohlig accepted the plea deal, is recommending a sentence of 13 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85 percent parole ineligibility, subject to the No Early Release Act.

Pohlig will remain detained until his sentencing, which is scheduled for June 9.
