West Deptford High School Baseball Team Wins First State Title
The Eagles defeated Parsipanny, 2-1, in the state final on Saturday.

West Deptford, NJ -- A disputed call in a championship game that went an extra inning resulted in the West Deptford High School baseball team’s first state championship on Saturday, according to nj.com.
West Deptford defeated Parsipanny, 2-1, in the final game of the NJSIAA State Group 2 playoffs in Toms River when Moonie Garrison scored what would turn out to be the winning run on a Parispanny throwing error in the top of the eighth.
Parsipanny had an opportunity in the bottom of the frame, however, when it put runners on second and third.

With two outs, Tommy Nowicki hit a grounder to Garrison at shortstop, who bobbled the ball and whose throw was initially called late.
After a conversation with West Deptford coach John Oehler, the umpire reversed his call and the game was over. The umpires didn’t speak to nj.com after the game.

The victory capped an incredible season for the Eagles, who won their first South Jersey title since 2011 when they defeated Cinnaminson, 3-1, in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 final.
West Deptford entered the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs as the No. 1 seed.
The Eagles opened the playoffs with a 9-0 win over No. 16 Pennsauken Tech.
The Eagles then defeated No. 8 Barnegat, and first round draft pick Jason Groome, 2-1, in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, West Deptford downed No. 4 Audubon, 8-0.
West Deptford defeated Delaware Valley, 2-0, in the state semifinals earlier this week.
West Deptford was 25-6 this season.
