1 Dead In 3-Alarm House Fire In Union County
A 71-year-old man was found near where the fire started in the house and pronounced dead at the scene.
GARWOOD, NJ — A man died following a three-alarm house fire in Union County on Friday night.
On Nov. 3 just before 5 p.m., Garwood Fire Department was called to a working structure fire.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and found fire showing from the first floor of the home, said Garwood Fire Department.

Crews from Engine 3 extinguished the fire from the outside as they made their way through the back of the home and stopping the fire from extending further than the first floor, said the fire department.
A 71-year-old man was found near the area of the start of the fire and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The three-alarm house fire brought in fire, police EMS, Hazmat and state agencies through Union County mutual aid to help.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim who succumbed to the fire," said Garwood Fire Department.
Garwood Fire Department reminded residents about the importance of having properly working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout their homes. Residents should know two ways out in case of emergency and practice drills and know where their meeting places are.
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should be tested monthly, said the fire department.
