$16K In Donations, Grant Awarded To Westfield Schools
New gifts approved in Westfield include playground equipment, department support and funding for a high school exhibit.
WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield school district accepted about $16,000 in donations and grant funding at a recent Board of Education meeting.
Board member Kent Diamond and Finance Liaison shared at the March 16 meeting that the items included private donations, two anonymous gifts, and a grant awarded to a Westfield High School teacher.
The first donation was from the Albert Anthony Kayal Foundation for $2,500 to fund a presentation by Dr. Michael Fowlin, "You Don’t Know Me Until You Know Me," for Westfield High School students.

Jefferson School PTO donated $10,950 to purchase six permanent outdoor basketball hoops for the Jefferson School playground.
The board also accepted two anonymous donations for Roosevelt School. One anonymous donor gave $500 for the Roosevelt math department, and another anonymous donor gave $500 for the Roosevelt drama department.

In addition to those donations, the board accepted a $5,000 grant awarded to Dr. Kim Leegan, a Westfield High School social studies teacher. The grant was described as an NJEA/WEA Pride Grant and will fund part of the Hate Ends Now: Cattle Car Exhibit at Westfield High School.
Diamond thanked the donors during the meeting.
