19 Westfield High School Students Awarded Medals in Nationwide French Exam

Westfield High School students earned 1 platinum, 3 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals in this year's Grand Concours – a nationwide test.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School students earned one platinum, three gold, nine silver and six bronze medals in this year’s Grand Concours – a nationwide test administered by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).

More than 100,000 elementary and secondary students participate in the contest nationally, with 41 Westfield High School students taking the test this year.

Senior Michael Hauge earned 1st place in both the state and in the nation on Level 5, the highest and most difficult of the exams.

“This is quite an amazing feat,” noted WHS French teacher, Rachel Janus.

  • Level 4: Madison McKenna – 2nd place, Hannah Brogan – 3rd place, Fiona Gillespie – 8th place and Ryan Burns – 10thplace.
  • Level 3: Kayla Butera – 7th place, Meghan Johnson – 8th place and Megan Hanlon – 10th place.
  • Level 2: Stephen Park – 4th place, Marcelina Krowinska – 5th place, Ian Gurland – 7th place, Theresa Lizzo – 8th place, Sandrine Perez – 8th place and Elijah Soh – 10th place.
