2 Cars Stolen, 2 More Broken Into Over 1 Week In Westfield
In one instance, burglars entered a Westfield home and stole items including keys to the BMW parked in the driveway, said police.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Police reported multiple thefts and burglaries to cars last week. All of the cars were left unlocked.
Westfield Police blotter:
On April 9 at 5:38 a.m.: A 25-year-old driver from Westfield was arrested for driving a vehicle while intoxicated. At the scene, he was placed under arrest and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters. He was processed and released on a summons to a responsible adult.

On April 9 at 10:11 p.m.: A motor vehicle left running with the keys inside, was parked outside a business on the 1200 block of West South Avenue. This vehicle was stolen by two black men wearing ski masks. The vehicle then fled westbound on West South Avenue.
On April 10 at 7:33 a.m.: A 200 block of Delaware Street resident reported an incident of burglary, theft and motor vehicle theft. According to the residence sometime between April 9 at 7 p.m. and April 10 at 7:33 a.m., someone entered his home through an unlocked back door. Once inside, they stole $1,970 worth of property, that included a set of keys to his BMW. The subjects then stole the BMW parked unlocked in the driveway and fled the scene. The estimated value of the stolen property, according to the victim, including the vehicle, is around $91,970.

On April 12 at 12:41 p.m.: A 200 block of Maryland Street resident reported that around $260 of miscellaneous personal items and cash was stolen from inside of her vehicle, which was parked unlocked in the resident's driveway at the time of theft.
On April 12 at 3:01 p.m.: A 200 block of Myrtle Avenue resident reported that five mail packages were stolen from the front of his home. The total value of the contents of the packages is around $580. The theft occurred sometime between March 1 and April 11.
On April 14 at 2:28 p.m.: A 500 block of Summit Avenue resident reported an incident of identity theft and fraud. Between April 6 and 7 someone used her identity to withdraw a total of $8,000 from her checking and savings accounts. Additionally, someone used her identity to open two credit card accounts in her name. The victim reported all fraudulent activity to her financial institution and closed affected accounts.
On April 14 at 3:53 p.m.: An anonymous resident responded to Westfield Police Headquarters to report a pair of Apple AirPods which were found on top of a bench in Mindowaskin Park. The AirPods were taken into police custody and secured for safekeeping.
On April 14 at 3:53 p.m.: An Apple brand watch was found in the 300 block of Watterson Street by an anonymous person. The watch was taken into police custody and secured at the Westfield Police Headquarters for safekeeping. Westfield Police Dispatch was unable to locate the owner of the watch.
On April 14 at 4:40 p.m.: A 400 block of Summit Avenue resident reported a burglary to his motor vehicle and theft. According to the resident, someone entered his unlocked vehicle which was parked in the back of his home. Once inside the vehicle, the actors stole a $1,500 winter coat and fled the scene.
On April 14, between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.: A bicycle was stolen from the Southside Train Station, located near the station house. The victim reported that he had secured the bicycle with a cable lock and had left it in the designated bike rack area of the train station. Upon his return, the victim discovered that his Bianchi Cortina bicycle, blue in color was missing. The bicycle missing from the scene is valued at $375, including an attached Tyke Toter child seat, orange in color, valued at $100, and the cable lock, silver in color also valued at $20.
On April 14 at 9:06 p.m.: A 64-year-old man from Hillside was arrested by Officers Natale and Swiderski for driving while intoxicated, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-50, pursuant to a motor vehicle stop investigation on Madison Avenue near Prospect Street in Westfield.
