2 Cars Stolen Within 24 Hours In Westfield, Police Issue Warning
There were 40 vehicles reported stolen statewide on April 9 and 237 vehicles reported stolen between April 3 and 9.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Two vehicles were stolen within 24 hours in Westfield prompting police to send out an alert.
On Sunday at around 10:11 p.m., a 2011 Lexus IS250 was reported stolen from the parking lot of a 24-hour convenience store located on the 1200 block of W. South Avenue, said Westfield Police.
The car was left running unattended with its key fob inside, said police.

It was later found unoccupied in Plainfield at around 12:30 a.m.
On Monday at around 1:07 a.m., burglars were able to get inside a home on the 200 block of Delaware Street through an unlocked rear garage door that enabled access to the home, said police.

Later that same day at around 7:33 a.m., a 2022 BMW X3M was stolen from the driveway of the home, said police.
"The Westfield Police Department implores all residents to lock their vehicles and to secure their key fobs – regardless of the hour of the day. It also implores all residents to lock the doors to their homes, especially during the overnight hours!!!" said police.
Residents are asked to report all suspicious persons, vehicles and/or activities immediately to the police via 911.
In the last 24 hours on April 9, there were 40 vehicles reported stolen statewide and 237 vehicles reported stolen between April 3 and 9 – including 24 from Union County municipalities.
A total of 3,635 vehicles have been stolen statewide to date – an average of 36 per day.
