2 DWI Arrests, $42K Fraud Reported In Westfield
The incidents were reported in the most recent police blotter.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Two arrests for driving while intoxicated and a fraud of more than $42,000 was reported recently in Westfield.
Westfield Police Blotter – April 6 to April 12:
On April 8 at 6:22 p.m.: A business in the 500 block of West South Avenue reported a loss of more than $42,000 due to fraud stemming from banking.

On April 12 at 4:13 a.m.: Samuel Peebles, 27, of Cranford, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Police responded to the 500 block of Springfield Avenue for a report of a single-vehicle crash. A roadside investigation determined Peebles to be operating while impaired. Peebles was transported to Westfield Police headquarters, where he was processed and released with numerous motor vehicle summons and a mandatory Westfield Municipal Court date.
On April 12 at 10:49 p.m.: Westfield Police Dispatch received a call about an erratic driver in a white-colored sedan traveling westbound in the area of West South Avenue and entering into the Central Business District. Westfield Police Officers found the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Lenox Avenue, near the intersection of Saint Paul Street. Open containers of alcohol were located inside the vehicle. After conducting field sobriety tests, the driver, Bryan Mateo Garcia Balla, 20, of North Plainfield, was arrested for driving while impaired (DWI). Balla was processed at Westfield Police Headquarters and later released with an upcoming Westfield Municipal Court date.
