2 Firefighters Fall Through Floor Of Burning Home, Injured In Union County

A total of 10 residents were displaced from their homes due to the fire on Tuesday night.

LINDEN, NJ — Two firefighters were injured and 10 residents were displaced following a house fire in Linden on Tuesday night.

At around 9:30 p.m., Linden Police and Fire personnel responded to the 200 block of E. Blancke Street to find a two-family home fully engulfed with flames on the second floor, said police.

"Initial reports indicated that residents may be trapped inside, and firefighters quickly began rescue efforts," said police.

A search confirmed that all residents safely evacuated the home.

However, during the search, two Linden Firefighters fell through the floor. Each was treated on scene for minor injuries, said police.

Neighboring houses were evacuated as a precaution.

Linden Firefighters, with help from multiple Union County Mutual Aid departments, were able to contain the fire to one home.

The fire was extinguished in just over an hour.

The home was deemed uninhabitable, and 10 residents were displaced. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said police.
