2 Men With Loaded Guns Stopped By Police On Union County Road: Cops

A Middlesex County man and a Union County man were both charged with possession of a loaded firearm on Saturday.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Middlesex County man and Union County man, who police say had two loaded guns, were stopped by police during a traffic stop in Cranford.

On Saturday, Aug. 5 at around 11:46 a.m., Cranford Police Officer Ryan McSharry saw a silver 2015 Kia with registration and equipment violations in the area of Centennial Avenue and Cayuga Road.

McSharry stopped the Kia on Cayuga Road at Ramapo Road and Officer Travis Freeman came for back-up.

During the motor vehicle investigation, McSharry saw the muzzle of a black hand gun protruding from under the front of the driver’s seat, according to police.

The driver, later identified as Basil Hasan, 20, of Scotch Plains, and passenger, Keshan Brown, 22, of Avenel, were both taken into custody without incident, said police.

Hasan and Brown were found to be in possession of two loaded 9mm Springfield Armory handguns, one equipped with an extended magazine.

Hasan and Brown were both charged with two counts of second-degree possession of a firearm and one count of fourth-degree possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine.

In addition, Hasan was issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to maintain lamps, fictitious display of license plates, obstructed windshield, failure to produce a credential, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to inspect a motor vehicle.

Brown was issued a summons for failure to wear a seatbelt.

At the time of this arrest, Hasan and Brown were taken to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
