No Injuries, Damage In Westfield After 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake
Officials are asking residents to refrain from calling 911 or the Town Police unless it is an emergency.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A 4.8 magnitude earthquake rattled Westfield on Friday.
"All indications are that everyone is safe following the earthquake, and no damage has been reported in Town," according to Town of Westfield, New Jersey.
Mayor Shelley Brindle also confirmed, "Yes! That was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter in Lebanon, NJ. While frightening, no damage has been reported. Will keep you posted if new details emerge."

Westfield Town Police also issued a warning to residents.
"Please do not contact Westfield Police Department Headquarters in regards to a recent possible earthquake unless you need immediate assistance," said Westfield Police.

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake detected with an epicenter identified seven kilometers north northeast of Whitehouse Station in New Jersey, according to the United States Geological Survey, which monitors earthquakes.
Reports of buildings shaking began about 10:20 a.m. and lasted for approximately 30 seconds.
