5 Westfield High School Seniors Named National Merit Semi-Finalists

The Westfield High School seniors will be honored at the next Westfield Board of Education meeting on Oct. 18

WESTFIELD, NJ — Five Westfield High School seniors were named 2017 National Merit Semi-Finalists.

Dr. Derrick Nelson, WHS Acting Principal, congratulated the seniors who include Soo Min Chung, Olivia C. Hamilton, Michael J. Hauge, Amy S. Liang, and Nicholas A. Youssef.

The Westfield Board of Education will honor the students at its next public meeting to be held on Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at 302 Elm Street.

Approximately 1.1 percent of students who take the Preliminary SAT test qualify as National Merit semi-finalists.

They are the highest scoring entrants and are eligible to apply for National Merit scholarships. The program honors students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
