Attack Of The Nine Foot Pizza In Westfield (Video)

Outta Hand Pizza is submitting their flag siciliano pie to the Guiness Book of World Records. And the proceeds of its sale is for veterans.

WESTFIELD, NJ - Carted across town by an honor guard that included Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro and a squad car with flashing lights, a 9' by 4' patriotic piece of pizza was portioned out to patrons Saturday night as Outta Hand Pizza revealed the largest flag siciliano pie in the world.

The pizza was unveiled to the public at the lower level parking of lot 3 at the Westfield Train Station on South Avenue and after the pizza was served, live tunes by The Unknown Legends were followed by Outdoors Movie "Jumanji" starring Robin Williams.

Outta Hand Pizza owner Burim Regjaj said the pizza was created in honor of first responders.

"In honor of our incredible Westfield Police Department headed by Chief Chris Battiloro, EMS, Westfield Fire Department," Regjaj said.

He also noted the flag pizza is meant to honor local Veterans, servicemen and servicewomen of US Armed Forces. Money generated by the sale of the slices is being used to help veterans.

Regjaj told Patch that the idea was his and that it started small, and then quickly "turned into this."

"Three pies stitched together as one," Regjaj said.

Regjaj said that he tried a few things to get the colors right on the 200 slice monstrosity, and it included using vegetables in the blue section.

"Most were purple," he said. "It didn't seem right."

In the end, they went with dyed blue mozzarella. And there were no leftovers.

Regjaj said he will be submitting his creation to the Guiness Book of World Records and the proceeds from the event will be used to assist veterans.

In his first year of operation, Regjaj has been going big with moves in the community. His eatery won the Westfield Area YMCA Pizza Palooza contest, he piloted a program to feed American veterans, rallied the community behind a single mother on the verge of losing her home and hosted Pizza With Police for the Westfield Police Department.

Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle wasn't far from the action on Saturday, as she shared live video from the pizza party.

Councilman David Contract said the entire event was a success, not just the pizza.

"It was a great night to enjoy live music, a great movie and delish food from Outta Hand Pizza and Cuba 1958 including the world’s biggest American Flag pizza," he said. "Thanks to these wonderful Southside businesses, Spencer Savings Bank and the DWC for sponsoring tonight’s event."

Those who missed out on their chance to devour a piece of history needn't fret, Regjaj said patrons can order their own, albeit smaller, version of the pizza. A 4' by 3' version of the "Pizza Americana"is available for order.
