Attempted Home Burglary, DWI Arrest, Shoplifting Reported In Westfield
Westfield Police released its blotter for the past week.
WESTFIELD, NJ — An attempted home burglary, a purse stolen from a car parked at Tamaques Park, a DWI arrest and more were included in the latest police blotter.
Westfield Police Blotter – Oct. 13 to Oct. 19:
On Oct. 13 at 3:07 a.m.: Officer Barham conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Mountain Avenue and Colonial Avenue for careless driving. Through his investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Jack Hogan, 18, of Westfield, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Hogan was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters, where he was processed, issued motor vehicle summonses and released to a sober adult.

On Oct. 13 at 6:09 a.m.: A pedestrian reported seeing a broken window to a business in the 200 block E. North Avenue. The Westfield Police responded and observed the window broken as well. Contact was made to a responsible party for the business, and they confirmed the business was a victim of a criminal mischief to their property. The responsible person reports damage was new damage and the investigation indicates the criminal mischief occurred shortly before being seen by the pedestrian. The cost to repair the damage is unknown at the time of the report.
On Oct. 13 at 8 a.m.: An unknown suspect committed burglary to a parked motor vehicle at Tamaques Park between 7 and 8:15 a.m. A small amount of cash and several checks were stolen.

On Oct. 13 at 12 p.m.: An unknown suspect committed fraud by using a check stolen from a motor vehicle in the 400 block W. North Avenue to withdraw $1,789 from the victim's account.
On Oct. 13 at 5:17 p.m.: A local business in the 100 block of E. Broad Street reported multiple suspects who shoplifted merchandise and fled the area on foot. Westfield Police Department personnel subsequently located two of the suspects later identified as Jorge Martinez-Belisario, 25, of Bronx, NY, and a 15-year-old juvenile from Yonkers, NY. Both suspects were arrested and charged with shoplifting and obstruction of justice. They were subsequently released on summonses.
On Oct. 14 at 12:30 p.m.: A patron of a store located on the 300 block of East South Avenue reported that while shopping, she left her cart unattended for several minutes at which time an unknown person removed her wallet from her purse.
On Oct. 15 at 5:38 p.m.: An employee of a business located on the 1100 block of West South Avenue reports a shoplifting that occurred. A male suspect entered the store and took an item valued at approximately $92 off of a shelf. The suspect, described as a black man who appeared to be 50 - 60 years of age wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue hat, and white pants, then ran out of the business and entered a vehicle. The vehicle fled towards Scotch Plains.
On Oct. 16 at 12:49 p.m.: A resident reported an incident of theft from his residence in the 1300 block of Frances Terrace. According to the resident, an unknown actor stole a mail package from his front porch. The package contained a $1,000 cellphone. After stealing the mail package, the actor fled the scene in a vehicle which was waiting on the street.
On Oct. 16 at 7:41 p.m.: Westfield Police Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the 1300 block of Central Avenue and found the driver to have an outstanding traffic warrant out of Hazlet Municipal Court for $1,500. The driver, Elena Chirkova, 40, of Garwood, was turned over to the Hazlet Police Department.
On Oct. 19 at 10:19 a.m.: A resident reports that someone may have tried to burglarize their residence in the 600 block of Kimball Avenue. The actors tried to gain access through a screen window by using some type of pry tool as damage was seen to the window screen. However, the window screen was never opened, and no entry was gained. During this incident, damage occurred to the window screen. The cost to repair the criminal mischief is unknown. There were no items taken from the residence, nor was there any entry to vehicles in the driveway.
