Attempted Theft, Fraud, Found Property Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police released that latest blotter from last week.

WESTFIELD, NJ — An attempted theft, fraud and found property was reported in the latest Westfield Police Blotter.

Westfield Police Blotter from Sept. 3 to Sept. 9:

On Sept. 5 at 11:15 a.m.: A motorist reported an incident of burglary to his motor vehicle and attempted theft. The victim stated that he was driving his vehicle when he stopped in the area of Springfield Avenue near Mohican Drive to change a flat tire. While changing his tire, another vehicle stopped and an unknown male passenger entered the victim's vehicle without authorization and removed two envelopes containing an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then ran away and fled in the vehicle which was operated by another unknown woman. As the suspect was running away, he dropped the stolen envelopes, and all the cash was recovered by the victim.

On Sept. 7 at 2:27 p.m.: A Stoneleigh Park resident reported that they were the victim of fraudulent access to their account. The resident states that someone made fraudulent charges without his approval or authorization utilizing "rewards points" of the victim's account to make the purchase. Prior to discovering the fraudulent purchase, the victim realized they could not access their account and had to change their password to get access. The resident is currently at a financial loss of over $3,000 based upon the evaluation of the "rewards points" and the purchases made.

On Sept. 10 at 7:25 a.m.: An anonymous person responded to Westfield Police Headquarters and dropped off a gray bag containing gym clothing and notepads that was found inside Tamaques Park. The inventory of the bag did not reveal any information that would help to determine the ownership of the bag.
