Patricia & Paul Artisans of Fine Oils and Balsamics Celebrates Grand Opening

“Hi, welcome! Would you like some of our food? Please, try some.” Pattie Hanigan ushered her customers into her brightly-lit store, urging them to taste a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Behind her, Pattie’s husband and business partner Paul could be seen weaving between tables, offering advice on how to best spruce up specific recipes.

“What I like is it’s fun because people can come and explore . . . I don’t think people realize how many varieties there are,” Hanigan said, referencing her fresh stock of oils and balsamics. “I love it because it gives people the opportunity to taste and really enjoy it.”

Patricia and Paul Artisans of Fine Oils and Balsamics, located on 20 Elm St., celebrated their grand opening on Saturday June 8. The store, which possesses a sophisticated yet homey atmosphere, sells a wide variety of oils, vinegars and other specialties for adding flavor to cooking, as well as cookbooks and classy additions to the kitchen or dining area.

Hanigan described the business as her “second act.” She explained that after earning a degree in nutrition, gaining over 20 years of experience working for Aramark and Fed Ex, the business: “[It's] a nice combination of the food service, nutrition, serving the community, and the retail side. It’s a nice accumulation of everything.”

The customers who packed into the store received a 15% discount on any item they purchased, as well as tasty samples prepared that morning. “I’ve never had such a large crowd!” Sherry Cronin, executive director of the Downtown Westfield Corporation, observed.

Stated Mayor Andy Skibitsky (on hand for the ribbon cutting): “Because of these unique shop-owners, we have really become a unique destination . . . people on behalf of the whole town of Westfield, thank you for your unique entrepreneurial spirit.”
