One Dead, 6-Year-Old N.J. Girl Shot While Playing Outside

The Union County gunfire struck and killed a man in his 20s; a neighbor who did not wish to be identified said he ran over to help the little girl when he heard the gunshots, according to authorities.

The girl was shot in the leg in Plainfield, with the bullet passing through her body, according to the report. “She was crying and scared. She was shaking really bad,” he told WABC-TV.

Union County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Mark Spivey said the man who was shot was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The girl was also taken to RWJUH, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
