One Dead, 6-Year-Old N.J. Girl Shot While Playing Outside

Police are continuing to look for a suspect in a N.J. drive-by shooting that killed a man and wounded a 6-year-old girl while she was playing outside Friday.

A man was killed and two others injured, including a 6-year-old girl, after three men drove up in a car and opened fire, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

A 6-year-old and a 9-year-old daughter were playing outside on a front porch when bullets started flying, according to authorities.

The Union County gunfire struck and killed a man in his 20s; a neighbor who did not wish to be identified said he ran over to help the little girl when he heard the gunshots, according to authorities.

The girl was shot in the leg in Plainfield, with the bullet passing through her body, according to the report. “She was crying and scared. She was shaking really bad,” he told WABC-TV.

Union County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Mark Spivey said the man who was shot was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The girl was also taken to RWJUH, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
