Burglars Break Through Basement Window In Westfield

Westfield Police also reported two catalytic converter thefts in town over the past week.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Home burglaries, catalytic converter thefts, and more were reported in the most recent Westfield Police Blotter from June 11 to 17.

On June 11 at 3:45 a.m.: Residents located on the 600 block of Ardsleigh Drive reported they were awakened by the sound of their home burglary alarm after their basement laundry room window sensor was triggered. Entry was gained into the residence but the actor(s) left before police arrival. No items were taken from the residence.

On June 11 at 4:18 p.m.: Residents located on the 600 block of Ardsleigh Drive reported that they arrived home to find the window screen to his basement window had been damaged. Upon inspecting the screen, it appears it was intentionally ripped in an attempt to gain entry into the residence. The window was locked and access into the residence was prevented.

On June 12 at 5:08 p.m.: Westfield Police Officers located a stolen Range Rover with a New York Registration at the intersection of Central Avenue and Sycamore Street. Officers tried to catch up to the vehicle, but due to it speeding, they did not continue to follow due to the risk to public safety.

On June 13 at 8:41 a.m.: A Sunnywood Drive resident reports that they were the victim of identity theft. Specifically, that someone established a loan at a financial institution in their name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization or what information was used to open the account other than their name and a previous address. The victim reports no financial loss at this time.

On June 13 at 7:58 p.m.: A victim reports the passenger-side front window of her Land Rover Range Rover was smashed in within the parking lot of Gumbert Park between the hours of 6 and 7:58 p.m. The victim reports that her laptop, wallet and contents totaling around $2,205 were taken from the vehicle.

On June 14 at 4:33 a.m.: A resident reported hearing a loud grinding noise at 4:33 a.m. on the 200 block of Hazel Avenue. When the resident went outside and yelled at the suspect vehicle it fled southbound on Hazel Avenue. The resident later discovered their catalytic converter had been stolen.

On June 14 at 8:49 a.m.: A resident of the 400 block of Lenox Avenue reported that the catalytic converter that was attached to his vehicle had been stolen. The theft occurred during the overnight hours between June 13 and 14.

On June 14 at 9:38 a.m.: Nicole Donnel, 34, of Plainfield was detained on two outstanding warrants pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on E. South Avenue and Cacciola Place. Donnel was released on her own recognizance for both a traffic warrant out of Mountainside and a Wanted Persons warrant out of Lehigh County, PA with future respective court dates pending.

On June 14 at 6:15 p.m.: A resident of the 900 block of Bailey Court reported being the victim of fraud. The resident states he mistakenly sent a Zelle in the amount of $1,075 to an unknown person, who now refuses to return the money.

On June 15 at 2:30 p.m.: An anonymous party turned in a brown and silver "Silver Falcon Ambassador" knife that was found in the area of East South Avenue and Cacciola Place. The knife was placed into safekeeping at the Westfield Police Department.

On June 15 at 5 p.m.: A resident of the 600 block of Hazel Avenue reported being the victim of theft. The resident states his front vehicle sensor was stolen from his front bumper overnight, and it is valued at $1,000.

On June 16 at 3:39 p.m.: Korri Ketas, 39, of North Plainfield, was arrested after a report of shoplifting from a business in the 300 block of East South Avenue. Management from the business stated an actor was observed concealing items on her and leaving without paying. The officers responded to the area and saw a person matching the suspect’s description. When detained, the Ketas had the stolen items in her possession. Ketas was subsequently placed under arrest and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters. Ketas was processed and issued a summons with a future court date. Ketas was then turned over to the Bridgewater Police Department in lieu of bail for unrelated outstanding warrants.

On June 16 at 4:09 p.m.: A resident of the 500 block of Boulevard responded to Westfield Police Headquarters to report an act of fraud. The complainant states he tried to purchase eight pairs of sneakers for $1,615 from an online seller and he utilized Zelle to send this amount of money. After sending the money on May 8, the complainant states he never received his order, and is no longer in contact with the seller.

On June 16 between the hours of 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.: Two bicycles were stolen from the Southside Train Station, located near the station house. The victims reported that they had secured the bicycles with cable locks and had left them in the designated bike rack area of the train station. Upon returning, the victims discovered their Cannondale bicycle, grey in color and a Trek Marlin 4 Gen 2, blue in color missing. The bicycles missing from the scene were valued at $550 and $750.
