Burglars Force Open Window To Enter Home In Westfield

A watch worth $20,000 was also reportedly stolen from a Westfield business last week.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A home burglary, theft from a business, fraud and more were reported last week in Westfield.

Westfield Police Blotter – July 21 to July 27:

On July 21 at 4:17 a.m.: A resident of the 1300 block of Grandview Avenue reported a possible burglary in progress. Westfield Police units arrived on scene and found a front window to have been forced open with evidence of actors gaining entry into the residence. Surveillance footage captured two actors fleeing from the home prior to police arrival. The suspects fled in a white sedan. No proceeds were reported to have been taken at this time. The front window sustained damage to the locking mechanism.

On July 22 at 7:47 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Norman Place stated he was recently notified by a division of the State of New Jersey that his account was flagged for possible identity theft. Additional inquiries were made with the residents’ banking and financial institutions which identified other accounts that were compromised. The accounts were flagged and frozen. A report was taken for documentation purposes. No financial loss has been reported at this time.

On July 23 at 2:20 p.m.: A resident in the 700 block of Fairacres Avenue reported that fraudulent charges were made using their credit card information. The victim also believes that their online airline account was compromised in order to process the unauthorized purchases, which totaled around $2,619.06 in flight and hotel reservations.

On July 23 at 6:23 p.m.: Jose Casadiego, 25, of Elizabeth, was arrested on the strength of a Winfield Municipal Contempt of Court warrant in the amount of $250 subsequent to a motor vehicle stop in the area of West South Avenue, near the intersection of Hort Street. After obtaining the necessary pedigree information, Casadiego was released roadside with a pending court date.

On July 25 at 2:46 p.m.: The business owner of a Jewelry store located in the 100 block of East Broad Street reported an incident of theft. According to the owner, unknown actors entered the store and stole a $20,000 designer watch from one of the display cases.
