Catalytic Converters Stolen, Criminal Mischief Reported In Westfield

A DWI arrest, theft, and fraud were also reported recently in Westfield.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Catalytic converters stolen, DWI arrest, criminal mischief, and fraud were reported recently in Westfield.

Westfield Police Blotter – April 21 to April 27:

On April 22 at 10:25 a.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Boulevard reported being the victim of theft. At an unknown time between 2 p.m. on April 21 and 10 a.m. on April 22 an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from his 2002 green Honda Odyssey minivan.

On April 23 at 1:09 p.m.: A Settlers Lane resident responded to Westfield Police Headquarters and reported an incident of identity theft and fraud. According to the resident, someone used his identity and leased several real estate properties in the victim’s name without his knowledge or consent. Victim has been receiving delinquent rent payment notifications in the amount of $26,000.

On April 23 at 5 p.m.: A resident of the 400 block of Beechwood Place reported being a victim of a theft. According to the victim, someone stole the catalytic converter of his vehicle sometime between April 13 and April 23. The theft was valued at $200.

On April 25 at 5:51 p.m.: A New Jersey Transit commuter exited the Westfield North Side Train Station and went to Westfield Police Headquarters to report that an Apple iPhone 14 was removed from her front right side jacket pocket while she was aboard the train. The victim did not realize the phone was missing until after she exited the train. The value of the stolen cellular phone is believed to exceed $700.

On April 27 at 9:18 p.m.: A property owner on the 100 block of Mountain Avenue reported an act of criminal mischief. Video surveillance shows an unknown male or female, wearing a dark helmet/gloves/light-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants, operating an e-bike that resembles a dirt bike. The suspect can be seen arriving to the area, ripping numerous fence bars apart and then fleeing the area on the e-bike. The approximate total of damage was $500.

On April 27 at 11:14 p.m.: Olivia Orango, 37, of Monmouth Junction was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on W. South Avenue and Scotch Plains Avenue for driving while impaired. Orango was also found to have multiple warrants out of South Brunswick, North Brunswick, New Brunswick, and Plainsboro. Orango was later turned over to New Brunswick Police Department on the strength of their contempt of court warrant.
