When is something really hot and really cool? When we are beating the heat by doing cool things at Vacation Bible Camp!
Are you a mate, amigo, shimware or tomadachi? (We have learned that they are words for friends/neighbors.) Even though people live across the oceans, they still can be our neighbors.
At camp we are learning we can be a good neighbor by being:
friendly, giving, bold, forgiving and welcoming.

The Bible lesson today was from I Kings about a widow who gave cheerfully to strangers. What a cool thing to do! We’re doing our mission activity by thinking of others...we brought in packs of construction paper for our mission bookshelf and tomorrow need to bring in a package of markers. At the end of the week we’ll be giving all of the supplies to our new friends at Helping Hands who have been with us in Assembly Hall all week.
In Discovery, we learned all about a special tree in Zimbabwe - the baobob tree- that stores water in its trunk. We made our own little trees from brown lunch bags filled with newspaper. Ms. Barbara Ringk told us about some of the things she saw in Africa when she was there to visit our church’s friends.

In recreation with Mrs. Jill Brown (helped by Sam the man) we played a running game that helped us cool off. We were in teams and loaded up our squishy softballs with water, ran down to a bucket and then squeezed it out. Afterwards we were rewarded with bottles of refreshing, cold ice water. Now we know what those trees in the desert feel like when they finally get rain!
Our new friend Malcolm helped us learn a new song – one from Africa - and we had a blast dancing to it.This is fun!!
