Crews Douse Two-Alarm House Fire Overnight Wednesday In Westfield
No injuries were reported after an electrical fire in a single-family home on Vernon Terrace, the Westfield fire chief said.

WESTFIELD, NJ — An electrical fire broke out at a home on Vernon Terrace early Wednesday morning, the Westfield Fire Department said.
Chief Michael Duelks said the fire department responded to a reported smoke alarm at 1:55 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters found smoke and fire on the right side of the home, which is in the 100 block of Vernon Terrace. All residents got out of the house safely, Duelks said in a news release.
The fire extended up to the attic in the single-family home.

"Crews provided vertical ventilation through the roof to release the super-heated air, gases and smoke," Duelks said. "This allowed the attack team a quicker attack on the seat of the fire."
The fire department called for a second alarm, and Union County Fire Mutual Aid companies came to the fire. The county mutual aid companies also helped cover the Westfield Fire Department's service calls, Duelks said.

The Westfield Rescue Squad helped with firefighter rehabilitation. No injuries were reported, Duelks said.
The Westfield Fire Prevention Bureau investigated the scene and determined it was an electrical fire; Duelks said the Westfield Construction Official was requested to the scene, as well.
Crews had the fire under control at 2:27 a.m., he said, with fire department personnel on scene "into the early morning hours."
