Details Released As N.J. Snowfall Predictions Increase

More details were released on snowstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has released more details on snowstorms covering most of New Jersey Tuesday and lasting until Wednesday.

The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Advisory covering most of N.J., saying as many as 3 to 6 inches - or as few as 1 to 2 inches - of snow could fall. Those snow counts nearly doubled since Sunday.

  • Snow is expected to fall at a moderate to heavy rate at times Tuesday and Tuesday night.
  • Accumulating snow will affect travel through Tuesday night, including the rush hour commutes. The road conditions will likely deteriorate during times of heavier snowfall rates. Bridges and other elevated surfaces tend to become slippery first.
  • Visibilities will be one half mile or less at times.
  • Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s late tonight, then around freezing during Tuesday.
  • Winds will move northeast 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

The National Weather Service’s Mount Holly office updated the coastal flood watch to a warning Monday morning as streets in low-lying areas along the Jersey Shore began flooding from the effects of high tide and a coastal storm.

Forecasters said widespread moderate coastal flooding is anticipated to happen again at high tide Monday evening as well as at Tuesday morning’s high tide.
