Dog Dies, Woman Hospitalized After Hit By Car In Westfield
A 72-year-old Westfield resident was walking her dog on Friday night when she was hit by a car, said police.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A dog has died and a 72-year-old Westfield woman was hospitalized after being hit by a car on Friday night.
On Dec. 8 at around 4:51 p.m., the Westfield Police Department responded to a crash involving a pedestrian and her dog at the intersection of W Grove Street and Boulevard.
Police found a 72-year-old Westfield resident was walking north and crossing the street at the intersection when she was hit by a vehicle driving west on W Grove Street, said Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro.

The victim was provided initial emergency medical care on the scene by Westfield police officers and then firefighters and was later taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Westfield Rescue Squad and paramedics.
The dog also had injuries and was taken by Westfield police officers to an emergency animal hospital on behalf of the victim.

The dog later died, said Battiloro.
Currently, this crash remains an ongoing investigation. It is being investigated by the Westfield Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
The Westfield Police Department was helped at the scene by the Union County Police Crash Analysis Unit.
Since this crash is still under investigation, no summonses have been issued at this time. That is a matter to be determined.
