Driver Wanted For Hitting Juvenile Bicyclist In Union County

Authorities are asking the public for help to try and find the vehicle wanted in the hit-and-run on July 5.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — Authorities are asking the public for help to identify and locate a car wanted for hitting a juvenile bicyclist in New Providence.

On July 5 at around 4:55 p.m., a juvenile bicyclist was hit by a vehicle on Springfield Avenue in the area of the United Methodist Church, said police.

The vehicle fled the scene traveling East on Springfield Avenue through the center of town. Witness statements and a police investigation found the suspect vehicle to be a 2006-2010 Volkswagen Jetta, color dark blue/green.

"The vehicle should have passenger side damage including a missing side view mirror," said police.

Any residents along Springfield Avenue who have surveillance systems are asked to check their video on July 3 between 6:50 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. and provide it to the Police Department.
