DWI Arrests, Attempted Home Burglary, Fraud Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police released its blotter for the past week.

WESTFIELD, NJ — An attempted home burglary, fraud, and arrests for driving while intoxicated were reported in Westfield.

Westfield Police Blotter – Jan. 12 to Jan. 18:

On Jan. 12 at 9:19 p.m.: The Westfield Police Department received a report of a residential burglary attempt that had occurred several minutes prior on the 1000 block of Ripley Avenue. The subjects tried to gain entry by using a pry tool to a door, however no entry was gained. The subjects fled prior to police arrival.

On Jan. 13 at 7:31 a.m.: A resident in the 200 block of W. South Avenue reported being the victim of fraud. He reported he saw two transactions at businesses located on the 200 block of West South Avenue for the amounts $96.20 and $16.95 which he did not authorize. Additionally, the victim discovered he was no longer in possession of his credit card.

On Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.: A business owner from the 500 block of Central Avenue reported being a victim of check fraud. According to the victim, a business check was altered and deposited into an unknown account after it was sent out to a vendor. The victim was not familiar with the name of the individual now appearing on the altered check.

On Jan. 15 at 12:21 a.m.: Karl Hoempler Santa-Cruz, 30, Iselin, was placed under arrest by Officer Sarris for driving while intoxicated, subsequent to a motor vehicle stop and roadside investigation in the area of Central Avenue and Starlight Court. He was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters where he was processed and released to a sober adult.

On Jan. 15 at 4:09 p.m.: A responsible party for a business in the 500 block of E. Broad Street reports a theft of service. The complainant stated a person entered the business to have a procedure completed. The person had difficulty paying for the procedure upon completion and arrangement was made to allow the person to have another person pay on their behalf. However, payment was never received. Further investigation revealed that the person provided a fraudulent address and telephone number. It was apparent that the person intended to not pay for the service provided. The cost of the procedure and the monetary loss of the business is over $2,000.

On Jan. 17 at 12:37 a.m.: Westfield Police Officers responded to the 5th Precinct of the Newark Police Department to pick up Melinda Schuenemann, 35, of Newark, who was being held on the strength of Westfield Contempt of Court warrant with a bail amount of $1,000. Schuenemann was later released on her own recognizance with an upcoming Westfield Municipal Court.

On Jan. 18 at 4 p.m.: A resident of the 300 block of North Chestnut Street reported being the victim of fraud. An unknown person cashed a check written by the victim to a third party in the amount of $3,474. The victim suspects this check was stolen from the mail at an unknown time.

On Jan. 19 at 12:23 a.m.: Dawn Ogrady, 43, of Winfield, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated pursuant to a motor vehicle stop in the area of 600 West North Avenue. Ogrady was taken to Westfield Police Department headquarters where she was processed and released with multiple summons.
