DWI Crash, Attempted Car Burglary, Fraud Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police released the blotter for April 30 to May 6:

WESTFIELD, NJ — A DWI crash, attempted car burglary and fraud were reported last week in town.

On May 1 at 11:55 a.m.: A 600 block of Fairmont Avenue resident reports that they were the victim of identity theft. Specifically, that someone established a checking account at a financial institution in their name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization or what information was used to open the account. The victim reports no financial loss at this time.

On May 1 at 11:58 a.m.: A 200 block of Linden Avenue resident reports that they were the victim of identity theft. Specifically, that someone established a checking account at a financial institution in their name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization or how the information used was obtained. The victim reports no financial loss at this time.

On May 2 at 1:59 p.m.: A resident reports that someone tried to burglarize their vehicles while their vehicles were parked in their driveway. The actors tried to open the doors of the resident's vehicles, however, the doors were locked and no entry was gained. There were no items taken from the vehicles, nor was there any damage to either vehicle.

On May 3 at 12:03 p.m.: Westfield Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Harrison Avenue and Raymond Street regarding the location of a stolen motor vehicle from another jurisdiction. Upon the initial officer's arrival, he saw the vehicle in question stopped in front of a residence. This officer then saw a suspect from the back of a home run towards the awaiting vehicle. The actor then entered the waiting vehicle and the vehicle fled the area. Subsequent investigation determined the actor was on the property on the residence and had no lawful reason to be on the property. There was no damage to the residence or vehicles on the property, nor was entry gained to any vehicles on the property.

On May 3 at 2:32 p.m.: A 600 block of Summit Avenue resident reports that they were the victim of fraudulent charges to their bank account. The resident states that someone made fraudulent charges without their approval or authorization. The resident is currently at a financial loss of more than $1,000.

On May 5 at 5:21 p.m.: A 41-year-old woman from Westfield was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated subsequent to an on-scene investigation in the area of Central Avenue and Cacciola Place. She was taken directly to Westfield Police Headquarters where she was processed and released.

On May 6 at 6:19 p.m.: A resident of the 100 block of South Euclid Avenue reported someone called her pretending to be from PSE&G. This person tried to gather credit card information for fraudulent use by claiming failure to pay would result in termination of services. The suspect was confirmed to not be affiliated with PSE&G.

On May 6 at 10:03 p.m.: Lynda Bryant, 56, of Roselle, was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor or drugs subsequent to a motor vehicle crash investigation in the area of Central Avenue and Lenox Avenue. She was taken directly to Westfield Police Headquarters where she was processed and released.
