Union County Man Sentenced For Armed Robbery Spree
Dayshawn Brimfield of Elizabeth was sentenced after police say he robbed a bank, a vehicle, and multiple convenience stores across NJ.
ELIZABETH, NJ — An Elizabeth man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a spree of three armed robberies at a bank and convenience stores across New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced.
Dayshawn Brimfield of Elizabeth, previously pleaded guilty to a five-count Information, charging him with one count of bank robbery, two counts of Hobbs Act robbery, one count of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle. Judge Quraishi imposed sentence in Trenton federal court.
On April 2, 2021, Brimfield robbed a bank in Hazlet. Brimfield entered the bank and handed a teller a note, which stated, among other things "This is a Robbery I have a Gun I will Kill Someone if you do not follow these instructions," according to documents filed in this case and statements made in court.

On April 17, 2021, Brimfield stole a motor vehicle in Elizabeth, which he used as the getaway car in his later robberies, according to authorities.
On April 20, 2021, Brimfield robbed a convenience store in Aberdeen. Brimfield entered the store and showed a handgun to the cashier before taking money from the store’s register and fleeing the scene, said authorities.

On April 20, 2021, Brimfield robbed another convenience store in South Plainfield. Brimfield entered the store and pointed a handgun at the cashier. Brimfield took the cashier’s wallet and cellular phone before emptying the store’s registers and fleeing the scene, said authorities.
Brimfield fled New Jersey in the stolen vehicle, but was ultimately apprehended by law enforcement in Lancaster County, Nebraska. Brimfield led officers on a brief, high-speed chase before crashing into a fence on the side of the highway, said police.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Quraishi sentenced Brimfield to 5 years of supervised release and ordered restitution to the victims of Brimfield’s offenses.
