Experience the Joy of Creating Art with the WAA at Spring Fling
All WAA activities at Spring Fling are open to all and are free of charge.

The Westfield Art Association (WAA) invites everyone to participate in the creation of artworks through collaborative painting at its booth at Westfield’s Spring Fling on Sunday, May 5, from 10am to 5pm, in downtown Westfield. WAA will also be sponsoring a prize drawing for those who take the fun “Art Personality Quiz”. All WAA activities at Spring Fling are open to all and are free of charge.
In collaborative painting, developed in Tunisia and now taught at the Art Students League of New York, multiple individuals take turns adding to a communal painting. Once a particular individual is chosen to start the painting, the artists work in complete silence during the event. Artists are free to contribute whatever they wish to the work and are even allowed to paint over someone else’s work. Finally, a simple majority of the painters declares the work to be finished.
Several large canvases will be initiated in acrylic paint by Westfield’s own Ricardo Roig, renowned for his “Westfield Series” of hand-cut screen prints and now the art teacher at Westfield’s McKinley and Lincoln Schools. All individuals, regardless of artistic experience, will have the opportunity to add to the canvases. Separate collaborative canvases will be available for adults, teenagers and kids. The combined signatures of all painters working on each canvas will be attached to the reverse of the painting and will become a permanent part of the artwork. The completed artworks will be exhibited at the WAA’s Annual Members’ Exhibition to be held at the Community Room of the Westfield Municipal Building on June 1, 2, 8 and 9, and offered for sale to the general public with proceeds to the WAA.
Art newbies, amateurs and professional artists are also invited to participate in the WAA’s new “Art Personality Quiz”. All participants in the Quiz will be eligible for a drawing to win a $100 gift certificate to Evalyn Dunn Gallery, Juxtapose Gallery, Galeria West, or River Mill Gallery.
