Firefighters Extinguish Car Fire On I-78 In Union County

The car caught fire on Monday morning on the westbound side of Interstate 78.

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — Firefighters battled a car fire on Interstate 78 in Berkeley Heights on Monday.

On Feb. 19 at 7:33 p.m., New Jersey State Police(NJSP) Troopers and the Berkeley Heights Fire Department went to a vehicle fire on Interstate 78 West at milepost 45.4 in Berkeley Heights Township.

Troopers found a Nissan passenger vehicle fully engulfed on the right shoulder, said NJSP Trooper Troy McNair.

The vehicle gas tank failed during the fire which created a small flammable liquid fire, according to the fire department.

There were no injuries reported.

New Providence Fire and Union County Hazardous Materials team also helped at the scene.
