Flipster digital magazine service premieres at Westfield Library

(June 7, 2018) – Patrons of the Westfield Memorial Library can now access their favorite digital magazines from the new service Flipster from EBSCO information Services. Flipster is a next-generation magazine service that replaces Zinio, the service the library previously used.

The Westfield Memorial Library has both Flipster and hardcopy versions of magazines such as Bon Appetit, GQ, Good Housekeeping, Martha Stewart Living, Men’s Journal, Vogue and Vanity Fair and more, so patrons have the option of accessing the content at the library or remotely. Magazines can be downloaded to Android™ phones and tablets, Apple® phones and tables, and Kindle Fire tablets for offline reading anytime, anywhere.

Flipster offers an easy, browse-able reading experience. Users can browse magazines by category as well as perform searches for specific periodicals. An online newsstand provides a carousel of the most recent issues, as well as a carousel of all issues allowing for quick access to magazines.

The table of contents contains links for quick access to articles of interest and hotlinks within magazines are hyperlinked, opening in separate tabs when clicked. In addition, there is an option to zoom in and out for better readability.

Library Director Phil Israel said, “Westfield Memorial Library patrons can now access their favorite digital magazines using Flipster to browse digital versions of the latest issues of popular magazines, courtesy of the library. No more subscription fees, no more unwanted paper waste, no more hastily reading articles in the grocery store check-out line...well, you might still do that.

“Flipster is a selection of digital magazines available to patrons 24/7. It’s simple and easy to use. We even have a tutorial video to help you get started. Once you give Flipster a try, I’m sure it will become part of your daily on-line use.”

Founded in 1879, the Westfield Memorial Library—the community’s destination for discovery and ideas—engages minds, entertains spirits and facilitates lifelong learning for people of all ages. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday until June 17. The library will be closed on Sunday beginning June 24.
