Freight Train Snags Wires, Topples Poles Onto 3 Cars In Union County
Two people were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and more than 1,100 people are without power as a result.
ELIZABETH, NJ — Three cars were hit by falling wires and poles after a freight train snagged overhead wires in Elizabeth on Monday.
At around 1 p.m., a freight train heading westbound, hit overhead wires on Division Street, which caused multiple poles to be pulled down, according to Elizabeth Spokeswoman Ruby Contreras.
Three cars were hit by falling wires and poles. Two people were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. One person refused medical attention, said Contreras.

"PSE&G is on scene disconnecting power, but multiple units will be arriving in the next hour because of the extent of the damage. They are predicting overnight work," said Contreras.
Surrounding buildings have also lost some power and Verizon is on scene as well. As of 3:20 p.m., more than 1,100 PSE&G customers are without power.

The intersection at Trumbull and Division will be closed for the next several hours.
