Garage Door Broken In Attempt To Burglarize Westfield Business: Police
A car burglary, DUI arrest and fraud were also reported in the latest Westfield Police blotter.
WESTFIELD, NJ — An attempted burglary to a business was reported in Westfield last week.
On Aug. 16 at 2:29 a.m., the owner of a business at the 300 block of Springfield Avenue reported someone broke a pane of glass on a garage door.
This damage was apparently part of an attempted burglary to the business, said Westfield Police.

The actor was not able to get inside the business. The estimated cost of the damage is more than $500.
There was no other criminal mischief reported. There were no items stolen from the business, said police.

On Aug. 14 at 12:39 p.m.: A 700 block of First Street resident reports that someone used their identity to access an account with a financial institution. The person then created fraudulent checks that were then used to take funds from the account. Currently, the victim has suffered a monetary loss of around $1,000.
On Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m.: A victim at Tamaques Park said that someone entered their parked vehicle and stole from inside the vehicle. The victim reports around $250 in cash was inside a wallet at the time of theft. The victim reports additional items were stolen had an approximate value of $200. The victim is unsure if damage occurred to the locking mechanism and it appears the vehicle was locked at the time of the theft.
On Aug. 15 at 4:41 p.m.: Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Central Avenue near Elizabeth Avenue. One vehicle was found disabled after colliding with a curb. An investigation determined that the driver, Donald Meixner, 59, Westfield, was operating the vehicle while impaired. The driver was placed under arrest and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters. At police headquarters, breath samples from the driver were obtained. The driver was released with a summons to a responsible adult with a future mandatory court date.
On Aug. 16 at 5:20 p.m.: A Talcott Road resident reports their identity was stolen and that someone fraudulently had the resident's address changed with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission as a part of the Identity Theft. The victim has suffered no monetary loss at this time.
On Aug. 17 at 5:58 p.m.: Wagner Fontaine, 44, Brooklyn, New York, was arrested during an investigation after a motor vehicle stop in the 300 block of E. South Ave. Fontaine had an outstanding criminal warrant from Holmdel. Fontaine was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters. He was held in Westfield Police custody until turned over to the Holmdel Police Department.
On Aug. 17 at 8:05 p.m.: Andy Paul, 27, Scotch Plains, was placed under arrest on the strength of the following active warrant out of Dunellen Boro Municipal Court for $300 pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on W. North Ave. and Elm St. He was released on his own recognizance on scene.
On Aug. 18 at 11:49 a.m.: A business owner of an establishment located in the 900 block of West Broad Street reported being a victim of fraud. According to the victim, someone cashed three unauthorized fraudulent business checks. The checks were cashed in three different locations and were endorsed to three different persons, one of whom is and was an ex-employee of the business. The total amount of loss from these fraudulent check transactions is $2,317.78.
On Aug. 19: A resident of the 700 block of Saint Marks Avenue reported the theft of a bicycle. According to the resident, the bicycle was left unsecured in front of his neighbor's residence. Shortly thereafter, when he returned to retrieve his bicycle, it was no longer there. The bicycle is described as being pink in color with a white colored basket and an unknown blue color logo. Approximate owner estimated value of the stolen bicycle is $300.
On Aug. 19 at 9:20 a.m.: Mayra Barralaga, 44, Plainfield, was placed under arrest on the strength of an active traffic warrant in the amount of $1,000 out of New Brunswick. On Aug. 19, Westfield Police Officers responded to a call for a dispute near East Grove Street and Boynton Avenue. After an initial investigation, Barralaga was found to have the active warrant and was placed under arrest curbside and taken to Westfield Police HQ for processing. Barralaga was held until custody was turned over to New Brunswick Police Department.
On Aug. 19 at 12:39 p.m.: A resident of the 1000 block of Harding Street reported an incident of fraud which occurred on July 16. According to the resident, someone made four unauthorized fraudulent wire transfers from her bank account. The total monetary loss resulting from this fraudulent activity is $20,998.
