Gov. Christie Slow Jams the News on Fallon

Gov. Chris Christie appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night to break down his decision to “let the people vote” in a special election for Frank Lautenberg’s senate seat.

As The Roots laid down a smooth R&B beat, the governor mostly played the straight man to Fallon. Christie “slow jammed” his talking points about the special election and dodged questions about whether he’d announce a run for president.

Christie remained poised, good natured, and at times affected a mock-offended tone, as Fallon cracked fat jokes at the guv’s expense during the 5 minute segment.

“Now look, I know that this election is going to cost tax payers some money, but these costs can’t be measured against the value of having an elected member of the United States Senate — that’s why I’m throwing my full weight behind this decision,” Christie jammed during the bit.

“Oh, come on. Come on now, Christie Cream Doughnut,” Fallon laughed. “How you gunna be setting me up like that — it’s not event funny.”

“Isn’t that what your audience says every night?” Christie batted back. 

Christie isn't the first politician to break it down with Fallon; in 2012 President Obama slow jammed the rising cost of college.

The governor's appearance on the late night talk show was preempted in some markets, however, by a triple overtime Stanley Cup Finals game between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks.
