Halal Guys To Open In Union Saturday

UNION, NJ — New York City’s famous halal food cart concept is coming to Union. Holmdel local Khattab Abuattieh is opening The Halal Guys Gyro and Chicken at 2317 US Route 22 in Union on Saturday.

This will be Abuattieh’s second Halal Guys location. He opened his first in East Brunswick in May 2016.

“I’ve been a customer of the original Halal Guys cart for more than 15 years,” Abuattieh told Patch. “I used to drive anytime of the day to New York City to pick up food from there when the craving hit with my wife and son. For more than 15 years I’ve been a fan of the food and I’ve been trying to looking for them to franchise and one day they announced franchising and I jumped at the opportunity.”

The Halal Guys in Union will serve the same food as well-known in their New York City location. Food includes chicken, beef gyro or falafel sandwiches and platters, or chicken over rice, all complemented by The Halal Guys’ famous white or hot sauces.

All ingredients are fresh, never frozen, including high quality, responsibly-sourced halal meats; marinated and seasoned overnight, they are cooked on the grill right in front of guests. Sides include house-made hummus, baba ganouj, tahini, falafel or fries and flaky baklava.

“Nothing in the Union comes close to what we will offer,” Abuattieh said. “We are excited to bring in something different for the community and anyone traveling on Route 22.”

The grand opening will be held on April 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and will feel more like a party.

“We will have a lot of goodies and a lot of swag to give away,” Abuattieh said.

Giveaways include T-shirts, a pillow shaped like the famous white sauce packet, free giftcards and more. There will also be a DJ playing as well.
