Home Burglary, Credit Card Fraud, Check Fraud Reported In Westfield

Someone entered a Westfield home through an unsecured first-floor window and ransacked the home, said police.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A home burglary, credit card fraud, check fraud, and found property were reported in Westfield recently.

Westfield Police Blotter from Sept. 10 to Sept. 16:

On Sept. 10 at 7:25 a.m.: An anonymous person responded to Westfield Police Headquarters and surrendered found property which was found inside Tamaques Park. The property is a gray bag containing gym clothing and notepads. Inventory of the bag did not reveal any information that would help to determine the ownership of the bag.

On Sept. 12 at 3:22 p.m.: A 300 block of W. Broad St resident reported that someone improperly cashed/deposited a check that was written to a business. The actor(s) intercepted the check in the mail prior to it reaching the intended business. The actor(s) then altered the check to another name and then cashed/deposited the check. The victim has suffered a monetary loss of more than $3,000.

On Sept. 12 at 5 p.m.: As a result of a police investigation, Bryant Cadet, 21, of Scotch Plains, was charged with unlawful use of a credit card, a crime of the third-degree. He was issued a mandatory court appearance in Union County Superior Court in the near future.

On Sept. 12 at 11:25 p.m.: A resident of the 900 block of Central Avenue reported a residential burglary. The actor(s) gained entry through an unsecured first-floor window. The resident discovered an open window with the interior of the residence ransacked. At this time, no items were reported stolen.

On Sept. 16 at 10:06 a.m.: A white iPhone in a clear case with various stickers (pizza slices, stars, and hamster cage) was found on a property of the 300 block of Linden Ave. The owner of the phone could be located or determined.
