Home And Car Burglaries, Fraud Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police released the blotter for incidents last week.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Home and car burglaries and fraud were reported last week in Westfield.

Westfield Police Blotter from Aug. 20 to Aug. 26:

On Aug. 21 at 12:21 p.m.: A business owner in the 300 block of Springfield Avenue reported that a burglary occurred to their vehicle while the vehicle was parked and unlocked on the business premise. The reporting person was notified by a neighbor that they saw a suspicious incident. The reporting person then reviewed the property's surveillance video and saw someone enter their unlocked vehicle. The actor then exits the vehicle and leaves in an awaiting vehicle. No theft of property occurred during this incident.

On Aug. 25 at 1 p.m.: A resident of Mountainside reported being the victim of theft. The complainant stated that while shopping at a store in the 100 block of Elm Street someone stole her purse from a shopping cart. Later the victim discovered an attempted $500 fraudulent charge on her credit card at a store in Clark. The amount of items stolen, including an iPhone and wallet, totaled $520.

On Aug. 25 at 4:17 p.m.: A Mohawk Trail resident reported an incident of fraud that occurred between Aug. 9 and Aug. 14. According to the resident, someone obtained her credit card and made numerous fraudulent charges totaling $976.08. The victim reported the fraud to her financial institution and was reimbursed for all monetary loss resulting from these fraudulent charges.

No Date: A resident of the 900 block of West North Avenue reported a residential burglary. Responding units discovered an open rear door with the interior of the residence ransacked. The resident reported that his rear door was left unlocked. At this time, no items were reported stolen.

On Aug. 26 at 5:36 a.m.: A resident of the 1000 block of Lawrence Avenue reported seeing a suspicious person walk up his driveway before abruptly turning around and running towards a waiting SUV. A canvass of the area yielded negative results.
