Lockdown Lifted At Westfield High School After Social Media Threat

WESTFIELD, NJ — An emergency lockdown at Westfield High School and shelter-in-place at all other Westfield schools has been lifted on Wednesday following a social media threat.
Normal operations and classes have resumed, said the district around 9:20 a.m.
At around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the Westfield Police Department notified the high school of a possible threat made on social media against the building, said Acting Principal Bill Loughran in a letter to the community.

In response, the high school immediately initiated a lockdown, securing all classrooms, hallways, and external entrances. All other schools in the district implemented Shelter-in-Place procedures while the high school remained in lockdown.
"At no time was any student or staff member in danger," said Loughran.

Loughran went on to thank the Westfield Police Department for their swift response and support and also to students and staff for their outstanding cooperation throughout the lockdown.
