Burglars Attempts To Break Into Cars, Homes In Westfield Foiled By Locks

Burglars tried to break into three cars and one house through a back door but had no luck last week, according to the police blotter.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Attempted car and home burglaries, shoplifting, fraud, and theft were among the incidents reported in the latest police blotter.

Westfield Police Blotter from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4:

On Oct. 29 at 8 a.m.: A resident of the 400 block of Washington Street reported a burglary to her motor vehicle. The victim states that her vehicle was parked in her driveway on Oct. 28 at around 10:30 p.m. and she returned to the vehicle on Oct. 29 at 8:30 a.m. The vehicle was found to have been entered with the items that were located in the center console strewn about the interior. No items were reported to be missing at this time.

On Oct. 30 at 5:45 p.m.: A silver diamond ring was found on a property of the 300 block of West South Avenue. The owner of the ring could not be determined or located at this time.

On Oct. 31 at 2:19 p.m.: The owner of a residential property located on the 500 block of Central Avenue reports a suspicious incident / fraud. The victim states that she was made aware of a Facebook post depicting her property for rent. The post included a phone number to call to inquire about the apartment for potential new tenants. The post was made by an unknown suspect and was fraudulent in nature. There was no monetary loss reported.

On Oct. 31 at 6:07 p.m.: A business in the 200 block of East North Avenue reported a shoplifting. The employees at the business stated two suspects entered the store and removed $114.92 worth of merchandise before fleeing on foot. Both suspects entered the store at around 6:07 p.m. One suspect can be described as a young black man, wearing red sweatpants, a red sweatshirt with the hood up, a blue medical mask, and was carrying a grey colored backpack. The other suspect can be described as a young black man, wearing a black colored sweatshirt with the hood up, and jeans, carrying a brown colored suitcase.

On Oct. 31 at 10:54 p.m.: A resident in the 1000 block of Harding Street area reported that an unknown suspect tried to burglarize their vehicles that were parked in their driveway. The actors tried to open the doors of both of the resident's vehicles, however, the doors were locked, and no entry was gained. There were no items taken from the vehicles, nor was there any damage to either vehicle.

On Oct. 31 at 10:54 p.m.: A resident in the 1000 block of Harding Street area reported that an unknown suspect attempted to burglarize their vehicle while their vehicle was parked in their driveway. The suspect attempted to open the door, however, the door was locked and no entry was gained. There were no items taken from the vehicle, nor was there any damage to the vehicle.

On Nov. 1 at 7 a.m.: A resident in the 600 block of Carleton Road area reported lawn signs were stolen from their property. The approximate value of the signs is $25.00.

On Nov. 1 at 4:30 p.m.: A resident in the 200 block of Golf Edge area reported that someone used their identity to access an account with a financial institution. The person then deceived the victim into electronically transferring amounts of funds from the resident’s account. These fraudulently transferred funds were removed from the account they were transferred into. Currently, the victim has suffered a monetary loss. The resident additionally reports that they were the victim of Identity Theft. Specifically, the unknown actor(s) established and attempted to open lines of credit with a financial institution in their name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization or what exact information was used to open the account.

On Nov. 2 at 3:08 p.m.: A resident in the 500 block of W. South Avenue area reported that an unknown actor stole a sign from the property. The value of the sign is around $5.

On Nov. 2 at 5 p.m.: As a result of a police investigation, Eric Aaron, 51, of Springfield, was charged with shoplifting from a business establishment located near the 1100 block of West South Avenue, Westfield. He was issued a summons and given an upcoming Westfield Municipal Court date to appear.

On Nov. 2 at 6:16 p.m.: Graffiti was located and documented in the underpass of the North and South Side Train station platforms.

On Nov. 3 at 5:32 a.m.: A resident in the 400 block of Beechwood Place area reported that someone tried to burglarize their home. The actors tried to gain access through the rear sliding door. However, the sliding door was locked, and no entry was gained. During this attempted entry no damage occurred to the door. There were no items taken from the residence, nor was there any entry to vehicles in the driveway.

On Nov. 4 at 7:41 p.m.: Malcolm Lovett, 25, Rahway, was arrested pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on Central Avenue and Quimby Street with an outstanding Clark Municipal Court warrant. He was released on scene with a new court date.
