Luxury Car Stolen, Packages Nabbed In Westfield Recently: PD Reports

Westfield Police released the blotter for the past week.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Phone bill fraud, attempted home break-ins, and a stolen BMW were among the incidents reported in Westfield over the past week, according to the latest blotter.

These incidents occurred between Dec. 3 and Dec. 9, 2023. Here are some of the more notable calls for service; you can read more on Westfield PD's Facebook page.

On Dec. 4: A resident reported they were a victim of identity theft, with someone opening a credit line in their name. The resident stated that they are unaware who opened the account without their authorization, or what information was used to open the account, and had not reported any financial loss.

On Dec. 7: A resident on Massachusetts Street reported a possible burglary at his home, around 6:30 a.m. Westfield Police officers confirmed that someone had pried open a rear window in an attempt to burglarize the residence. Once the home's alarm sounded, three suspects fled and got into an unknown vehicle, then left the scene. Police said that the suspects also attempted to enter the victim's vehicle, which was parked in the driveway.

On Dec. 7: A resident on Maryland Street also reported an attempted burglary and vehicle theft just before 9 a.m. Sometime during the early morning hours on Dec. 7, a suspect (or suspects) removed six window screens from the residence, and also tried to get into the homeowner's vehicle.

On Dec. 7: A Westfield resident reported that someone used his name and address to open an account with his cellular service provider. After the account was opened, police said the suspect(s) accumulated $446.49 in charges. The resident was able to dispute the charges.

On Dec. 8: A resident of Stoneleigh Park reported their home had been burglarized, and the suspect(s) got into their home through an unsecured front door, got the keys to the homeowner's 2019 BWW X5, and stole it. The vehicle is valued at approximately $38,000.00.

On Dec. 9: Two residents in the 800 block of Central Avenue reported that their Amazon packages had been stolen off of their porches, sometime between the time they were delivered (around 8 p.m.) and when the thefts were reported an hour later. A total of five packages were stolen; the first resident said their packages were worth $270, and the second reported a worth of $180.

On Dec. 9: A resident in the 300 block of Central Ave. reported that their bicycle was stolen between the hours of 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The bike was described as a black Fuji bicycle with red and white detailing, valued at $600.00.
