Man Found Driving Stolen Car In Westfield Arrested: Police

A catalytic converter was also reported stolen from a car in Westfield last week, according to the police blotter.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A man found driving a stolen car in Westfield was arrested last week, according to the latest police blotter.

On July 2 at 3:27 a.m., Carlton Cromartie, 26, of Newark, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Central Avenue near the intersection of Cacciola Place, said police.

Cromartie was driving a motor vehicle reported stolen from Newark, said police.

He was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters where he was processed and released with new Municipal Court dates.

On July 2 at 8 a.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Coleman Place reports several credit cards being opened in her name by someone. The victim has had her identifying information used to open these cards without authorization. There has been no monetary loss reported.

On July 4 at 8:56 a.m.: While at Westfield Police Headquarters at 425 E. Broad St., an officer observed a cell phone on the ground. The officer was unable to access the cell phone number and there was no available information to determine the owner of the phone. The phone is an iPhone and a small amount of cash was in the case of the phone.

On July 7 at 3:05 p.m.: Courtney Johnson, 28, Plainfield was placed under arrest on the strength of an outstanding traffic warrant from a neighboring jurisdiction subsequent to a motor vehicle stop in Westfield. The required information was obtained from Johnson and she was released on scene with a new court date.

On July 8 at 10:27 a.m.: A resident of the 1400 block of Central Avenue reported that the catalytic converter which was attached to his vehicle was stolen by someone. The theft occurred during the overnight hours between July 7 and July 8.
